iPhone 6 Release Date Set For September Boasts Apple Partner

The CEO of a company that partnered with Apple to sell the iPhone in Russia claims the iPhone 6 release date is in September 2014.
This is the second Apple partner to point to the fall for an iPhone 6 release date and the most direct iPhone 6 release date claim from a company that plates an instrumental role in helping Apple sell the iPhone in Russia.

While this iPhone 6 release date rumor focuses on Russia, it points to a potential U.S. release as well, possibly in the August rime-frame that an analyst predicted last week. Apple typically releases an iPhone in the several countries including the U.S. and then rolls it out to additional countries in the weeks following. The iPhone 5s arrived in Russia a month after the U.S. release.

Svyaznoy is large cell phone sales company in Russia that partnered with Apple to sell the iPhone during a dispute with Russian carriers. The iPhone is now sold at carriers and through an official Apple website, similar to the U.S. model of selling the iPhone. iDownloadBlog shares an interview from a Russian TV program where Maxim Nogotkov, the CEO of Svyaznoy says,

That is the most direct statement we’ve heard about an iPhone 6 release date in any country. This lines up with the many iPhone 6 rumors that arrive each week, and while it is a statement from a CEO it is far from a confirmation of Apple’s plans.

iPhone 6 release date rumors start to agree on September.

This report comes as we start to hear rumblings about iPhone 6 production plans ramping up with new hires and with potential expansions at the Sapphire plant operated by the other Apple partner. The Sapphire plant is operated by GT Advanced technologies, which recently provided earnings guidance to investors that hints at a fall iPhone 6 release date.

Apple is notoriously secretive about iPhone launches and releases, but an annual upgrade cycle and supply chain slips often help nail down a date ahead of the official announcement. In previous years Gotta Be Mobile source pointed to the iPhone release shortly before the iPhone announcement, but never this far in advance.

An iPhone 6 release date in September is a common claim, which may be where Nogotkov is getting his information, rather than Apple. Still, it is worth noting when the CEO of a major Russian handset retailer claims to know the iPhone 6 release date.

At least one analyst or leak per week arrives with claims that the iPhone 6 release date is planned for the fall. Here is a quick rundown of the latest iPhone 6 release date rumors to arrive.

  • iPhone 6 release date as early as September – Nikkei
  • iPhone 6 release date in August or September - Steve Milunovich UBS via Barrons
  • iPhone 6 release in the fall - Andy Hargreaves at Pacific Crest via Business Insider
  • iPhone 6 scheduled for third quarter 2014 – ZDNet Korea
These are just the release rumors for March that are plausible. Early rumors pointed to dates throughout 2014, but as we move past end of March analysts and leaks are all pointing further into the year.

iPhone 6 rumors point to two iPhone models with larger displays. Analysts and leaks mostly agree that Apple is working on two screen sizes for the new iPhone, and often agree on a 4.7-inch iPhone 6 model. They don’t always agree on the timing of a larger iPhone 6 and whether the screen is a 5.5-inch or 5.7-inch size. We start this list out with a device that isn't a rumored smartphone but one that is going to be landing on shelves in just a few weeks.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 is Samsung's upcoming flagship and its a device that will serve as a replacement for the Galaxy S4. While the Galaxy S5 isn't sporting a QHD display or a metal design, it does have some very likeable features including a 16MP camera with fast auto-focus, gorgeous display and yes, a dust and water resistant design.
We've only spent a little bit of time with the Samsung Galaxy S5 but we came away impressed. This is a smartphone that we think has a chance to be special and it should certainly be on the radar given that it will be landing in the U.S. on April 11th.
